A magical round!
On October
21st, 2021; Bill “TEX” Burke did the unthinkable, no he didn’t
hit it over 300 yards off the tee or get another hole-in-one. He relished an under-par round beating his age
by 2 strokes. Tex went out in 32, 4 under par on the front nine and standing on
the 11th tee was 5 under par for the day. Then Bagger Vance showed
up in his mind and started to messing with his velvety smooth swing. TEX
is a 2-time MBSA champion and did what sandbaggers do best; pulled it together
for a solid 39 on the back and a 1 under par round of 71, not bad for a 73 year’s
young TEXan. That said, it won’t
be fair if I didn’t mention that with his 21-24 MBSA handicap range TEX
would have been -22 for the day, blowing Mark “Kreskin” Allen single day
scoring record out of the water by 7 strokes. Ironically, -22 was his overall weeklong
final net score in 2015. Look out MBSA,
2022 is shaping up to be the best of the best.

A magical shot!

It was a beautiful sunny day in mid- September, 2021 playing
a rather calm Links at Crowbush Cove golf course. It was the first time the Loblaw group was
fully together since the beginning of the pandemic. Everyone was excited to be back in PEI and I
was at the beginning leg of a two-week excursion to the Maritimes to visit with
friends and family. The excitement
extended its way to the 6th hole. The
pin was located at the center back location.
It was playing 152 yards that day and I hit a solid 7 iron with a little
left to right draw and it hit about 6 feet short of the pin and calmly rolled
into the hole for my first ever hole in one.
After a bunch of celebration on the tee with my playing partners I
promptly called RR to share the news. RR
and I have had a lifelong bet whereby the first person to get a hole in one
would receive $100 from the other.
Attached are pictures of the hole in one, the very nice flag that they
send you when you get one at Crowbush and of course RR paying up his debt when
I arrived at his house a few days later.
Took a long time to finally join the club that I know so many of you are
a part of. I guess that’s why I’m the
Turtle.....just take a little longer to get
